about the prints:
Prints of Jean-Louis Monfraix' original photographs are made with the latest in digital printing technology.  The original images are captured on 35mm slide film or dSLR cameras. 35mm slides are scanned at high resolution and processed in Jean-Louis' custom "digital darkroom".  All of the digital processing that is done is analogous to traditional darkroom techniques.  Nothing is added or removed from the original photograph.  Jean-Louis personally prepares each image from start to finish and is proud to offer these beautiful prints for sale in reasonably priced, open editions.

archival quality:
These archival giclée prints are made with Epson Ultrachrome III Inks.  Standard prints are printed on Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper and have a beautifully textured matte finish which, when properly displayed under glass and away from direct sunlight, has an estimated longevity between 50 and 100 years with no noticeable fading (based on lightfastness studies conducted by Wilhelm Research).  The large format prints are printed on Epson Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper and have an estimated longevity of over 200 years (according to Wilhelm Research.)

matting:
Standard prints are single-matted in archival quality white cotton rag mat board (this is not a bright white).  Large format prints, if purchased framed, are double-matted in this same mat board.

framing:
Standard prints are framed in elegant, high quality, matte black anodized aluminum frames (Nielsen Style #15 or equivalent.)  Large format prints are framed in black solid wood frames.

Fine Art Prints of Jean-Louis' photographs are available either single-matted or matted-and-framed in several different sizes.  Pricing is based on the size of the print.  The following standard sizes are usually ready to ship within one or two days.

Larger Formats:
Large format prints, up to 24 in. x 36 in., are available by special order.  Please contact Jean-Louis for inquiries about specific images and sizes.  The following price list shows prices for the print only, or double-matted with a black solid-wood frame.

All prices are in U.S. dollars.  Shipping and handling charges are additional.  District of Columbia orders are subject to 6% sales tax.  State of Virginia orders are subject to 5% sales tax.

Prints are shipped by UPS or USPS to physical addresses (homes or businesses, no P.O. boxes) in the lower 48 continental United States only.  Sorry, I do not ship to foreign addresses at this time.  Prices for shipping depend on the format (print, matted print, framed print), and the size of matted or framed prints:

Panorama Sizes:
Panorama images (like the Washington, D.C. Panorama at nightfall, Image # 070928_0576 in DC Gallery 5) have a different aspect ratio, 1x3, than the 2x3 aspect ratio of my 35 mm images, so the finished sizes and prices are necessarily different than the ones listed above.  In the following price list, the 6x18 print is available single-matted in a black metal frame like the standard sizes listed in the first table above.  All larger sizes are double-matted in a black solid-wood frame.  Other sizes are also available.  Please contact Jean-Louis if you have specific size inquiries.
